I have heard only good things about the book and after a Friend told me there personally recommended, I bought it immediately. A trip to Turkey seemed to be the perfect time to get to know Shafak prose. But I have taken more than a week to read the novel was finished and repeatedly tried to put the book away. Only after the half I was able to inspire a little more to the story.

The action takes place in Istanbul, in Bombonpalast. This building was built on the ruins of two cemeteries on the orders of a wealthy Russians. The client hopes that he manages to end his life with his ex-wife to return and help her gain back the memory.

The palace is an imaginative building - each floor is different and has been decorated with a different type of balconies. He has one disadvantage - it stinks and is inhabited by vermin. The square in front of the house is used by neighbors as a garbage dump. The subject of dust and the stench seems to symbolize Istanbul: a hectic, full, cluttered city that is home to people of all nations.

Living like that, different people in the Sweet Palace. At the bottom are two brothers, twins or more precisely, her hair salon. One brother grew up in Turkey, the other in Australia. Shafak, however abbreviated as the chapters and the individual fates are joined, it will be exciting and the novel gets more dynamic.

The novel design reminded me of "My Name is Red" by Orhan Pamuk. Similar to the Nobel laureate has each chapter as a thumbnail.

Only the beginning is different - Shafak describes her narration, written by the underlines with graphic signs - this has not convinced me. If I do, for example, from the linear narrative read, I do not still see a horizontal line. I love to read novels that have something new and unexpected at the linguistic level, such a graphical "improvements" but I do not like. I think that inspired the novel can, Shafak told suggestive and sometimes funny, but I would recommend it only partially.

Theorin descriptions are compared to his first novel, longer and more detail - I hope he will not come to Larsson's level - that would be a pity!

The resolution of mystery stories is also interesting - fortunately. I found it nice that Theorin ties in with his first book, for example, drops Gerlof Davidsson come back.

The author leaves the reader with several possible interpretations - the sand can be used as the main character and thus a parable of life are seen. At the same time can the novel as a representation of women (as it claims the title) who know to subdue the man.

The book has attracted me for a long time since I Czechs also interesting to think, has learned even two semesters Czech. Therefore I was very happy when I borrow the book from a friend was allowed.

But then the pace accelerated to such an extent that one wants to swallow the formal sentences to run faster to get ahead and learn how Theorin will refute the seemingly simple solution of the case. He succeeds masterfully, and I am sure that most readers will be surprised at the end.

Theorin works with short, concise sentences. The chapters are also short and playing alternately in the present and the past. These "tricks" to captivate the reader and make the book so exciting.

is actually in "Öland" not innovative. Theorin working with proven, traditional methods and also achieved his goal of creating an exciting thriller. I have unnecessarily set to an absolute thriller hit, it's certainly a good read but nothing more.

The book has attracted me for two reasons. First, I really like have books that relate to medicine, surgery or autopsy. Secondly, I have read many positive reviews on this book.

first What was your first book you've read and we have you get it?

I seem to remember that I read first "The Children of Noisy Village". I got it from my mom in the summer because I was 5.5 years old. The copy I still have. Now we read it together with my five year old daughter.

second How did you become a bookworm?

That just happened. According to stories of my family I've always been interested in books, learned to read quickly and then swallowed everything.

third How many books do you read on average a month?

Depending on the thickness of the book about 5-8 pieces. Unfortunately, sometimes less.

4th Did you have them read you as if you had no chance to read. If so by whom?

this I am absolutely can not remember but determined. I type mostly my mom has read.

5th How many books do you have?

too difficult. I can not answer the question because so many books have remained with my parents. Certainly more than a thousand but how many exactly? No idea.

Although the blog has suffered greatly from my lack of time, I would try it again this year to write here regularly.

In 2010, I read less books than in 2009 - that was clear I now have two children, who require more attention. I came up with 76 books plus 4 books that I had broken off. The broken titles were: "The Gathering" by Anne Enright, "The victory of Nelson Mandela" by John Carlin, "Karen Magnus's Daughter" by Mika Waltari and "The true power" by Stefan Zeromski.

Which countries I have visited this year? Once again I have read most books by Polish authors. Here is the complete list:

Unfortunately I have not read a book from South America.

Last year I had planned to visit Africa more often, what I only partly succeeded. Four books from African countries, after all, a good result. In addition, I wanted to meet Philippine literature - I move this project to 2011 and complement it with South American literature.

I also have read more books written by men, women wrote only 21st However, I have never paid attention to the gender of the author's words, this result is purely coincidental.

In 2010, I have finally read more in Polish - 50 books were in that language, the remainder in German.

I've been working on my challenges and plans and have 4 books which were crowned with the Nobel Prize read, 6 new countries visited and have read 4 books in the Polish challenge to the literary awards.

2010 had I continued my work with a couple of Polish publishing houses - read 29 of the books were donated by the publisher. In conclusion, I must say that I am satisfied with the cooperation: most books were hit, there were only a few specimens that have not taken my taste.
