Good thing this was not the first book by Le Clezio, I 've read. Had it been the case, I would have chopped off the Nobel Prize winner certainly made me immediately and never bother to read anything else by him. Here I have "revolutions" and "Fish of Gold" so much. "Ourania" is a much weaker novel.
Daniel Sillitoe - French geographer - is coming to Emporio. It is a place where scientists, primarily anthropologists, from all over the world to conduct research together, to deliver lectures and exchange experiences. In the first few days, Daniel an exploration of the anthropologists, because they occur against the local people have very mixed feelings. The valley is inhabited mainly by very poor people - the girls prostitute themselves, the children look at the garbage dumps for food, the women work from early morning until late at night at the strawberry fields.
Nearby is a mysterious settlement - Campos. Daniel is very interested in its people - they have an autonomous community with its own rules and its own language founded. When, in bus accident Rafael - an inhabitant of Campos - gets to know he is looking forward to learn more.
Le Clézio will have a third level in the novel one - Daniel meets a girl from Puerto Rico, with whom he enters into a relationship. Dalia missing but her little son, who lives with his father, who is involved in a revolution.
The variety of topics that affect Le Clézio in this book but quite recently, overshadowed the essential. Campos, or rather Ourania moves into the background. Too bad, I would still like to know more about the people, their home and daily life in the community . Learn The other plots should also be preparing. In this form, mutating the book a collection of different thoughts that are never thought through.
A great accolade goes back to Le Clézios language - long, well-formed sentences in the style of the ancient art of storytelling are evidence of the increasingly rare these days that occur ability to tell stories without haste.
I can "Ourania" not recommended. However, one should learn Le Clézio necessarily know - for example by the two other titles that I mentioned at the beginning.
My Rating: 3 / 6
